Just would like to post a comment with regard to Rabbitt Hunting with Beagles. I recently had my two dogs up after a few bunnies. The day was great lots of starts, and bagged a couple as well. The day would have been perfect when on the last run of the day, my oldest dog appeared to be beat, breathing heavy through his nose, a pale tongue, generally not the best considering he is in pretty good shape. I got him home wrapped him up in a blanket put down food & water. Certainly I was concerned, I called a neighbour of mine who has been running dogs for quite some time. He had a look an told me right away from his experiences that the dog was dehydrated.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, for anyone who may be a bit of novice to Rabbitt Hunting with beagles. Make sure your dog is well hydrated and he has his belly full the night before you take him up for a run.I gave my dogs a good grub job the night before and filled up three water bowls making sure the would be OK. My neighbour mentioned that to ensure my dogs were getting plenty of water to mix their dry food with a bit of flavoured water( beef or chicken cubes will do the trick ) The dogs will lap it up.
By the way, after a good nights rest and plenty of fluids, my dog is best kind with no sign of after effects from his ordeal. The Vet checked him out, and all is OK.
